The steps to configure a Chinese input method on OpenBSD are as follows:
- Install the Chinese input method engine: Enter the following command in the terminal to install Chinese fonts and input method engine:
- Install scim, scim-pinyin, and scim-tables-zh using pkg_add.
- Configure SCIM: Enter the following command in the terminal to edit the SCIM configuration file:
- open the .xinitrc file in the vi editor
- Add the following content to the end of the file:
- Set the language to Chinese, activate the SCIM input method for GTK and XIM input method for QT, and initialize SCIM with the command “scim -d”.
- Set up SCIM Pinyin input method: Input the following command in the terminal to edit the SCIM Pinyin configuration file.
- Edit the config file located at ~/.scim/config.
- Make sure the comments on the following lines in the file are removed.
- /FrontEnd/DefaultPreeditStyle = “1”;
/FrontEnd/DefaultInputMode = “pinyin”;/FrontEnd/DefaultPreeditStyle is set to “1” and the DefaultInputMode is set to “pinyin”.
- Start SCIM: input the following command in the terminal to start the SCIM input method.
- Run the debug mode in SCIM.
- Switch input method: locate the SCIM icon in the system tray and click on it to switch the input method. Select “Chinese (Simplified)” and the “Pinyin” input method.
Now, you should be able to use a Chinese input method on OpenBSD.
