How to terminate the W3WP.EXE process?

W3WP.exe is a process used by IIS (Internet Information Services) to handle requests from ASP.NET applications. Stopping the W3WP.exe process will cause IIS to stop processing ASP.NET requests, so it is recommended to stop the IIS service before closing it.

Here are the steps to terminate the W3WP.exe process:

  1. To open the task manager, you can press Ctrl+Shift+Esc.
  2. Locate the W3WP.exe process in the “Processes” tab.
  3. Right-click on the W3WP.exe process and choose “End task”.
  4. Click “End Process” in the confirmation dialog box.

Please note that closing the W3WP.exe process will result in IIS stopping the processing of ASP.NET requests, potentially interrupting running ASP.NET applications. Therefore, before shutting down the W3WP.exe process, make sure you understand its impact and backup any necessary data.
