How to check the health status of disks in Linux?
In a Linux system, you can use the smartmontools tool to check the health status of your disk. Here are the steps to check your disk’s health status using smartmontools.
- First, make sure that the smartmontools tool is installed on your Linux system. In most Linux distributions, you can install smartmontools using the following command:
- Please install the smartmontools package using the apt-get command with superuser privileges.
- After the installation is complete, you can use the following command to check the health status of all available disks:
- Run the command “sudo smartctl –scan”
- This command will display the device names of all available disks, such as /dev/sda, /dev/sdb, and so on.
- Use the following command to view the health status of the specified disk, replacing /dev/sda with the name of the disk device you want to check.
- Please run ‘sudo smartctl -H /dev/sda’.
- This command will display the health status of the disk. If the status is “PASSED,” it means the disk is healthy, otherwise there may be an issue.
